About Culog
Tucked away at the northern end of the Maumturk range, this rugged 435-metre Tump offers a distinct perspective on Connemara. Its summit provides an intimate look at the dark waters of Killary Harbour and the imposing bulk of Mweelrea to the north, away from the more trodden paths of the main ridge.

Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Irish word Cúlóg, meaning 'little back' or 'nook', reflecting its position tucked behind the more prominent peaks of the northern Maumturks.
- •From the summit, you gain an excellent profile view of the Partry Mountains to the northeast and the deep, glacial trench of Killary Harbour.
- •The hill sits directly above the village of Leenane, making it one of the few summits in the range where the prospect of a post-walk pint is visible for almost the entire descent.
- •While the main Maumturk ridge is famous for its grueling quartzite scree, the slopes around Culog are characterised more by steep grass and Atlantic peat bog.
