About Crossderry
Rising above the headwaters of the Sneem River, this rugged Tump provides a quiet, peat-hued viewpoint on the southern fringes of the Iveragh Peninsula. While often overlooked for the higher Macgillycuddy’s Reeks to the north, its summit offers a distinctive perspective over the remote Blackwater valley and the inner reaches of Kenmare Bay.

Did You Know?
- •The name likely derives from the Irish 'Cros Doire', translating as 'Cross of the Oakwood', indicating the ancient native woodland that once covered these lower Kerry glens.
- •From the summit, the view north is dominated by the jagged silhouette of Broaghnabinnia across the deep, glaciated trough of the Bridia Valley.
- •Sitting on the watershed between the Sneem and Finnihy rivers, the hill is part of the wild upland terrain that separates the Ring of Kerry road from the high interior peaks.
- •It is a quintessential Kerry 'in-betweener': high enough to catch the full force of the Atlantic weather, but low enough that the local sheep usually beat you to the top.
