Did You Know?
- •The name Barrclashcame is derived from the Irish Barr Claise Cam, which translates as the 'top of the crooked hollow' or 'trench', referencing the deep-set, undulating terrain of the Mweelrea and Sheeffry region.
- •Positioned as a high shoulder of the main Barrclashcame peak, it is often traversed by hillwalkers following the long ridge line connecting the Ben Gorm massifs.
- •The summit offers a stark, vertical perspective down into the Doo Lough Pass, with the hulking mass of Mweelrea rising directly opposite and the silver ribbon of Killary Harbour visible to the southwest.
- •Its height of 583 metres puts it just shy of the 600-metre mountain mark, a distinction that feels entirely academic when you are battling the exposed, wind-scoured peat hags common to this part of South Mayo.
