About Knockaterriff Beg
Tucked away in the western Galty Mountains, this heathery spur offers a quieter perspective of the range than the main ridge. Usually crossed while traversing between Temple Hill and Galtymore, its high, boggy plateau provides a fine, unobstructed view north across the verdant Glen of Aherlow toward the Slievenamuck ridge.

Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Irish 'Cnoc an tSnaithid Bhig', which translates as the 'Hill of the Little Needle', marking it as the smaller companion to the main Knockaterriff summit situated immediately to the northeast.
- •The peak is a key waypoint on the western end of the 'Galty Crossing', a challenging 32km ridge walk that traverses the entire range from the Galty Castle woods to Cahir.
- •Looking south from the summit, the horizon is dominated by the long, dark profile of the Knockmealdown Mountains, separated from the Galtys by the broad expanse of the Mitchelstown Valley.
- •Despite the 'Beg' in its name suggesting a minor height, the surrounding peat hags and heavy ground ensure your legs will be well aware of the effort required to reach it.
