About Loughermore
Rising as the high point of the Loughermore Hills, this sprawling, forested Marilyn offers a quieter alternative to the central Sperrins. Much of the terrain consists of commercial plantation and boggy moorland, yet the summit provides a wide perspective across the Faughan Valley toward the profiles of Sawel and Meenard.

Did You Know?
- •The name derives from the Irish Luachair Mhór, meaning 'big rushy area', an apt description of the damp, sedge-heavy terrain typical of these northern Derry uplands.
- •While listed on maps as Loughermore, the hill is frequently referred to as 'Fairview' by the local community, likely owing to the clear vistas it provides over the surrounding river valleys.
- •The summit offers a distinct vantage point over the River Roe to the east, with the dramatic basalt escarpment of Binevenagh clearly visible on the northern horizon.
- •Much of the lower ascent is managed by the Forest Service, requiring walkers to navigate a maze of timber extraction tracks before reaching the open peat hags at the summit.
- •Given its translation as a 'big rushy area', visitors should expect the ground to provide a rigorous, mile-by-mile test of their boot membranes.
