About Seefin [Sui Finn]

Rising above Glenbeigh on the northern coast of the Iveragh Peninsula, this Marilyn offers a rugged ascent with a maritime character. Its grassy, broad-backed slopes lead to a summit trig pillar where views stretch across Dingle Bay to the Slieve Mish Mountains and east toward the jagged MacGillycuddy’s Reeks.

Did You Know?

  • The name derives from the Irish Suí Finn, meaning ‘Finn’s Seat’, a reference to the legendary hunter-warrior Fionn mac Cumhaill, who was said to rest here while hunting in the Iveragh hills.
  • Seefin is frequently climbed as part of the Glenbeigh Horseshoe, a strenuous ridge walk that connects this peak with its neighbours, including Drung Hill and Been Hill.
  • Long-distance walkers on the Kerry Way pass through the 'Windy Gap' on the hill's western flank, a prominent pass that serves as a historic gateway between the Glenbeigh and Glencar valleys.
  • Looking north across the water, the summit offers a clear perspective of the entire Dingle Peninsula, with the massive profile of Mount Brandon often visible on clear days.
  • While the name suggests a comfortable resting place for a giant, the exposed, wind-scoured summit usually encourages modern visitors to keep moving rather than lingering for a seat.
