About Wether Hill
Rising as a substantial, rounded shoulder in the Carsphairn Forest, this Marilyn offers a quintessential Southern Uplands experience. Its broad, grassy slopes are now home to a significant wind farm, but the summit provides a clear perspective across to the higher mass of Cairnsmore of Carsphairn and the rugged Rhinns of Kells.

Did You Know?
- •The name derives from the Scots and Middle English term for a castrated ram, a reference to the hill's history as hardy upland grazing ground for sheep.
- •The summit plateau is dominated by the Wether Hill Wind Farm; while the turbines have changed the skyline, they provide a reliable, if audible, navigational handrail when the mist descends over the moor.
- •The vista from the top is defined by the contrast between the rolling, grassy foreground and the granite peaks of the Rhinns of Kells and the Galloway Hills to the southwest.
- •It is frequently climbed alongside its neighbour, Nutberry Hill, as part of a circuit from the A702, offering a quieter alternative to the more popular nearby summits.
- •The terrain is a classic example of what local walkers call a 'tussock-bash', where the thick, uneven grasses ensure that every mile earned feels significantly longer than it looks on the map.
