Did You Know?

  • Mynydd y Drum translates from Welsh as 'Mountain of the Ridge', describing the long, narrow spine that separates the Tawe and Dulais valleys.
  • The area marks a significant geological transition where the Old Red Sandstone of the Brecon Beacons meets the Carboniferous coal measures, a change visible in both the landscape and the surrounding local industry.
  • From this specific vantage point, there are clear views southwest down the Dulais Valley toward the village of Seven Sisters and the rising flank of Mynydd Marchywel.
  • The ridge is often used as an airy, lower-level alternative for walkers when heavy cloud or high winds make the higher northern escarpments of the Beacons impassable.
  • It is one of the few places in the region where you can watch the heavy machinery of an active opencast mine while standing in relative moorland solitude.
