About Meall Garbh
Situated on the celebrated Tarmachan Ridge above Killin, this rugged Munro Top offers some of the most enjoyable high-level walking in the Southern Highlands. Its rocky crest provides a dramatic vantage point, looking directly across to the massive Ben Lawers range and down the steep southern slopes toward the waters of Loch Tay.

Did You Know?
- •The name is derived from the Gaelic 'Meall Garbh', translating simply as 'Rough Hill'. While a common name across the Highlands, it is particularly apt here due to the shattered schist and craggy outcrops that define the narrow ridge west of the main summit.
- •It is most frequently visited as the second peak on the Tarmachan Ridge traverse, a classic circuit that begins at the high-level car park by Lochan na Lairige, significantly reducing the total ascent required to reach the 1,000-metre mark.
- •From the summit, the view to the west is dominated by the 'Crianlarich Giants', where the distinctive sharp peaks of Ben More and Stob Binnein stand out clearly against the horizon on a fine day.
- •The hill is a popular destination for walkers who find the neighbouring Ben Lawers massif a little too rounded and grassy, offering instead a plentiful supply of genuine rock and narrow paths to keep things interesting.
