Did You Know?
- •Beinn Ghlas translates from Scottish Gaelic as 'Green Hill' or 'Grey-Green Hill'. The word 'glas' is often used to describe pale, grassy slopes, distinguishing them from the darker, heather-clad moorland found elsewhere in the region.
- •Standing at 516 metres, it is classified as a Marilyn. This means that despite its relatively modest altitude, it has a prominence of at least 150 metres, making it a significant high point in the landscape between Loch Nell and Loch Scammadale.
- •The summit offers an excellent perspective on the Lorn coastline; on a clear day, the views extend across the Firth of Lorn to the distinctive hills of the Isle of Mull and the northern tip of Jura.
- •While this hill shares a name with a much more famous Munro in the Ben Lawers range, it is significantly quieter. You are far more likely to share the summit with local sheep or a passing golden eagle than with another walking group.
