What makes a mountain a Munro?

It needs to be in Scotland and reach at least 3,000ft (914.4m) with enough separation from neighboring peaks to be considered its own mountain. The Scottish Mountaineering Club makes the final call based on the peak's 'character,' not just strict measurements.

Can mountains be added or removed from the Munro list?

Yes, absolutely. New surveying technology occasionally finds that a peak is actually just above or below the 3,000ft mark, which can promote or demote it. Sgùrr nan Ceannaichean was famously kicked off in 2009 for being less than a meter too short.
