Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic 'Meur Gorm', which translates as the 'Blue Finger' or 'Blue Branch'. In this context, 'meur' refers to the way the ridge branches out like a finger from the main body of the mountain.
  • It serves as a subsidiary summit to Beinn a' Bhuird. Walkers usually encounter it while navigating the high-level circuit above the Quoich Water, a route that traverses some of the most extensive arctic-alpine plateau terrain in Britain.
  • The summit offers an exceptional vantage point looking directly across the glen to the massive granite tors of Ben Avon, specifically the prominent 'barns' of Leabaidh an Daimh Bhuidhe.
  • Located deep within the Mar Lodge Estate, it is one of the more remote points in the range; a standard approach from the Linn of Quoich involves a round trip of approximately 26 kilometres.
  • At over 1,000 metres, it stands higher than any mountain in England or Wales, yet its position as a mere 'Top' means it is often bypassed by hikers focused solely on the primary Munro summits.
