About Coolcross Hill
Rising above the village of Ballyliffin in Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula, this Marilyn offers a rugged, heather-clad ascent. Though modest in height at 291m, its coastal position provides commanding views over the sand dunes of Pollan Bay and the distinctive, wave-lashed stack of Glashedy Island out in the Atlantic.

Did You Know?
- •The name likely derives from the Irish 'Cúil na Croise', which translates as the 'nook' or 'corner of the cross', possibly referring to an old land boundary or a lost ecclesiastical marker.
- •From the summit, there are clear views over the world-renowned links of Ballyliffin Golf Club and the broad sweep of Trawbreaga Bay to the east.
- •To the north, the view is dominated by the much larger massif of Raghtin More, while the smaller peak of Crockaughrim sits immediately to the south.
- •While it falls nine metres short of the 300m mark, the hill’s classification as a Marilyn means it is officially more significant to list-checkers than many mountains twice its size.
