The Snub

Rising above the southern shores of Loch Muick, this rocky prominence forms a distinctive shoulder on the eastern approach to Broad Cairn. Its boulder-strewn terrain and exposed position offer a genuine sense of high-mountain wilderness, providing a sharp, dramatic contrast to the gentler rolling plateaus found elsewhere in the Mounth.

• •The name is descriptive of its physical shape, likely derived from the Scots term for a projecting point or a blunt, rocky nose on a hillside.
• •Positioned directly above the Glas-allt Shiel, the summit offers an exceptional aerial perspective of the hunting lodge that Queen Victoria retreated to following the death of Prince Albert.
• •The ascent is often made via the 'Streak of Lightning'—a steeply zig-zagging path that climbs the headwall of Glen Muick to reach the high ground between this peak and Broad Cairn.
