The Fara

Rising steeply above the western shores of Loch Ericht, this broad-backed Corbett offers a high-level ridge walk with a surprisingly remote feel. While it narrowly misses Munro status, the summit provides an exceptional vantage point for studying the craggy eastern face of Ben Alder and the distant peaks of the Drumochter Pass.

• •The name is derived from the Gaelic An Fharaidh, meaning 'The Ladder' or 'The Shelf,' referring to the stepped, terrace-like appearance of its northern slopes.
• •At 911.4 metres, it falls agonizingly short of the 914.4-metre (3,000ft) threshold for Munro status, ensuring the ridge remains considerably quieter than its more famous neighbours.
• •From the summit, you gain a clear, unobstructed sightline down the full length of Loch Ericht, one of Scotland’s most remote large bodies of water.
• •The summit plateau is surprisingly wide and features several false tops; the highest point is marked by a substantial cairn at the southern end of the primary ridge.
