Stob Garbh SE Top

Perched on the southern arm of the Crianlarich hills, this Munro Top is the quieter, slightly lower sibling to the craggy Stob Garbh. It offers a strategic vantage point over the Balquhidder glens, ideal for hikers who find the main summits far too crowded for their liking.

• •At 923.5 meters, this peak sneaks into the Munro Top category by less than ten meters of clearance above the 3,000-foot threshold.
• •The peak is part of the ridge connecting the mighty Cruach Ardrain to Beinn Tulaichean, forming a high-altitude horseshoe that is a favorite for local hillwalkers.
• •The name 'Stob Garbh' translates from Gaelic as 'Rough Peak,' a fitting description for the fractured schist and rocky outcrops that define the local geology.
• •It sits within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, providing a vital nesting habitat for several species of hardy upland birds that enjoy the solitude.
• •Navigation here in a thick mist is a true test of character; it is remarkably easy to convince yourself you've reached the main summit, only for the clouds to part and reveal the real peak laughing at you from further up the ridge.
