• •The Gaelic name Stob Dearg translates as 'Red Peak', likely a reference to the warm hue of the Cruachan granite when caught in the evening light. Its alternative name, the Taynuilt Peak, reflects its position directly overlooking the village of Taynuilt to the west.
• •It is most frequently reached via the classic Cruachan Horseshoe, a high-level circuit starting from the Falls of Cruachan. The approach from the main summit involves an exhilarating traverse along a narrow, rocky ridge that requires a steady head in high winds.
