Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Gaelic Stob an Chùl-choire, meaning 'Peak of the Back Corrie', referring to its position tucked behind the main mass of the Aonach ridge and overlooking the remote Coire a' Bhuic.
  • The summit is a significant landmark on the high-level traverse between the Aonachs and the Grey Corries, typically reached after a steep descent from the 1,234-metre plateau of Aonach Beag.
  • The view looking east from the cairn offers a spectacular perspective of the Grey Corries, with the sharp peak of Sgùrr Choinnich Mòr leading the eye along the distinctive white quartzite ridge.
  • Despite being classified only as a Munro Top, its elevation of 1,070 metres makes it higher than many of Scotland’s most famous standalone Munros, including Schiehallion and Ben Lomond.
  • It is frequently bypassed by walkers hurrying toward the Lairig Leacach, making it a 3,500-foot mountain that manages the impressive feat of being almost entirely overlooked.
