• •The name is Gaelic, meaning 'Old Upland' or 'Old Height.' It refers to the ancient, weathered nature of the high plateau, which stands in contrast to the sharper, more recently glaciated peaks nearby.
• •It is widely considered one of the most remote Munros in Scotland. Whether approaching from Inverlael to the west or via the long track from Oykel Bridge to the east, walkers face a round trip of at least 27 kilometres.
• •The mountain's standout feature is the Great Corrie of Luchd Choire. The summit plateau terminates in a spectacular 400-metre drop of sheer cliffs and buttresses, providing a vertiginous perspective that is hidden until you are almost at the edge.
• •The summit offers a celebrated view of the Assynt peaks to the north. On a clear day, the distinctive, lonely shapes of Suilven, Canisp, and Stac Pollaidh are easily identifiable against the sprawling Inverpolly wilderness.
• •Despite being a Munro of significant stature, its relative isolation means you are far more likely to share the summit with a passing eagle than another walking group.
