Meall nan Eanchainn

Perched above St. Fillans, Meall nan Eanchainn is the Corbett that watches hikers ignore it for the sexier Munros nearby. While everyone else is queueing for Ben Vorlich, you’ll have this 'Hill of the Brains' to yourself, assuming you don't mind the inevitable Highland bog.

• •Standing at 856 meters, this Corbett is a key feature of the Forest of Glenartney, an area once prized as a royal deer hunting ground for Scottish monarchs.
• •The name translates from Gaelic as 'Hill of the Brains,' which local lore suggests refers to the site of a particularly skull-splitting clan battle in the distant past.
• •It occupies a prime position just north of the Highland Boundary Fault, offering a distinct geological perspective where the rolling Lowlands finally surrender to the rugged Highlands.
• •From the summit, you can enjoy an uncrowded view of Loch Earn, watching the holidaymakers below while enjoying a peace rarely found on the neighbouring Munros.
• •The descent back towards the village is essentially a series of trapdoors disguised as heather; it is the only hill that actively tries to swallow your boots to prove its name correct.
