About Meall Coire Choille-rais

Sitting on the high, wind-swept plateau of the Creag Meagaidh massif, this Munro Top is often crossed during the classic circuit of Coire Ardair. It is a stony, high-altitude shoulder that offers a dizzying perspective down into the Great Gully and the massive cliffs of the inner corrie.

Did You Know?

  • The name translates from Scottish Gaelic as the 'hill of the corrie of the hazel wood', referring to the steep-sided Coire Choille-rais that drops away to the north towards Glen Spean.
  • While classified as a Munro Top rather than a full Munro, it serves as a significant high-altitude milestone on the ridge connecting the main summit of Creag Meagaidh to Stob Poite Coire Ardair.
  • From this vantage point, the scale of the Post Face in Coire Ardair is particularly striking, with the notch of 'The Window' visible to the west and the length of Loch Laggan stretching out to the south.
  • It is the sort of summit where, in a thick Highland mist, you might easily walk straight over the top without realizing you have peaked, only confirming the 'bag' later by consulting your GPS in the car.
