Meall an Fhir-eoin

A remote Dodd rising above the forested slopes between Loch Eil and Glen Loy in the Mallaig to Fort William area. At 581 metres, this is rough, pathless ground where navigation skills are essential. The summit rewards with views across Loch Eil to the hills of Ardgour and east toward the Grey Corries.

• •The name Meall an Fhir-eoin derives from Scottish Gaelic, translating as 'hill of the man of birds' or 'hill of the bird-man', possibly referring to a fowler who hunted game birds on these slopes, or to the hill's association with particularly good birding grounds.
• •The hill sits in an area historically dominated by Lochaber forest industries, with the surrounding glens once busy with timber extraction for charcoal production and later commercial forestry.
• •This is one of the quieter Dodds in the region, rarely climbed in isolation but sometimes tackled by those exploring the less-travelled hills between the more popular peaks of the Grey Corries to the east and the Ardgour hills across Loch Eil.
