Grandtully Hill

At 532m, Grandtully Hill is essentially the 'middle child' of the Tay Valley—consistently overlooked while everyone fawns over the nearby Munros. It offers a perfectly respectable vantage point over the river, provided you don’t mind the lack of a gift shop or a discernible trail.

• •The hill looks down upon the River Tay’s Grandtully rapids, a site famous for white-water kayaking. It serves as a natural grandstand for spectators watching the annual Scottish Slalom Championships.
• •The surrounding land was historically part of the Stewart of Grandtully estate, which dates back to the 14th century. The family’s castle remains a prominent, albeit private, feature of the nearby landscape.
• •Geologically, the area was once a hub for slate extraction, with several old quarries dotting the lower slopes. These quarries supplied the building materials that give local villages their dark, sturdy character.
