Creag Leathan

A modest Dodd in the Cairngorms massif, rising to 564 metres above the forested glens of the northern range. The ascent typically involves navigating through plantation and moorland before reaching the rounded, heathery summit. Views extend across the lower Spey valley and towards the higher Cairngorm plateau to the south.

• •The name derives from Scottish Gaelic 'Creag Leathan', meaning 'broad crag' or 'wide rocky face', describing the hill's characteristic sprawling profile rather than any sharp-edged summit.
• •Despite its relatively modest height, Creag Leathan qualifies as both a Dodd and a Tump, the latter requiring a drop of at least 30 metres on all sides and the former being a summit recognised in the Database of British and Irish Hills.
• •The hill sits on the northern fringe of the Cairngorms massif, where the high plateau country gives way to the gentler, forested terrain characteristic of Strathspey.
