Carn nan Caorach

A modest Dodd rising above the remote terrain between Glen Shiel and Loch Hourn in the western Highlands. At 543 metres, this grassy summit occupies wild country where the road network ends and the landscape opens into a network of lonely glens. The hill's relative obscurity belies its position in spectacularly rugged surroundings.

• •The name derives from Gaelic 'Càrn nan Caorach', meaning 'cairn of the sheep', reflecting centuries of pastoral use in these remote glens where livestock farming shaped the landscape long before modern paths and roads arrived.
• •The hill stands in one of Scotland's most roadless quarters, where the country between Loch Hourn and Loch Quoich remains genuinely remote, accessible only by long stalkers' paths or cross-country navigation.
