Carn Bhac South Top

Rising above the remote glens south of Braemar, this high point occupies the broad, undulating southern ridge of its Munro parent, Càrn Bhac. It is a landscape of wind-scoured heather and expansive skies, offering a quiet perspective on the massive granite tors of Beinn a’ Bhùird and Ben Avon.

• •The name is linked to the Gaelic word 'bhac', which refers to the peat-banks or hags that define much of the high ground in this part of the Grampians.
• •To the north, the summit offers an uninterrupted view across the Dee Valley toward the vast plateau of the Moine Mhòr and the distant, rounded dome of Ben Macdui.
• •Most walkers encounter this top while following the approach from the hamlet of Inverey, a long climb that follows the ridge leading north toward the main Munro summit.
• •Though it stands at a respectable 817 metres, its low prominence makes it a 'Tump'—a classification for those who enjoy the meticulous recording of every minor bump on a ridge.
