Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Brythonic 'caer', meaning fort, and the personal name Michael, suggesting the site of an early defensive position or a church dedicated to the saint.
  • The hill overlooks the historic Carmichael Estate, which has served as the seat of the Clan Carmichael for over 700 years.
  • The summit provides a distinct, lateral view of Tinto’s north-eastern flank, allowing you to appreciate the scale of Lanarkshire’s most famous peak from a much quieter vantage point.
  • At 353 metres, it is almost exactly half the height of its neighbour Tinto, making it a sensible alternative for those who want the views of the Clyde without the crowds.
