About Ben Hee North Top
Rising as a rugged northern shoulder of the main Ben Hee massif in Sutherland, this remote high point offers a wilder perspective of the Reay Forest. Its rocky terrain is typical of the North West Highlands, providing a quiet alternative to the main summit with wide, lonely views over the glens toward Loch Merkland.

Did You Know?
- •The name derives from the Gaelic 'Beinn Shìth', which most commonly translates as 'Hill of Peace' or 'Hill of the Fairies'.
- •The North Top is situated just over a kilometre from the main summit and is usually reached via the stalking paths that climb from West Merkland on the A838.
- •From the summit, there is a particularly clear view north towards the deep waters of Loch Eriboll and west across the desolate moors to the distinctive silhouettes of Arkle and Foinaven.
- •While it lacks the prominence of the main peak, as a Tump it remains a necessary detour for those baggers who consider a thirty-metre drop between summits a matter of professional pride rather than an inconvenience.
