Its alternative name, Meall Dubh, translates as 'Black Rounded Hill', likely referring to the dark, heathery appearance of its southern slopes.
• •The summit is a fantastic vantage point for studying the Great Wilderness; to the west, you can clearly pick out the jagged tops of the Fisherfield Forest, including the remote peaks of Ruadh Stac Mòr and A' Mhaighdean.
• •Walkers often approach this hill from the south near the head of Loch Broom, but the route requires crossing the Glas-allt Mòr. This burn can swell rapidly after rain, potentially turning a short day into a significant detour if the water is too high to ford.
