Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Gaelic 'Aonach Sgoilte', translating as 'Split Ridge', which refers to the deeply notched and shattered nature of the crest as it drops towards the Bealach na h-Eangair.
  • Though not a Munro itself, it is a significant high point on the massif of Beinn Sritheall, requiring an ascent from near sea level at Arnisdale that is famously steep and relentless.
  • The summit offers a peerless view into the 'Rough Bounds' of Knoydart to the south, specifically the massive, dark northern corries of Ladhar Bheinn.
  • The classification as a Hump (Hundred Metre Prominence) is a modest title for a hill that feels considerably larger when you are halfway up its unforgiving, pathless southern slopes.
