Am Bacan South Top

Situated in the hills south of Killin, this Tump marks a high point on the broad, undulating ridge of Am Bacan. Rising to nearly 2,000 feet, the terrain is typical of the Breadalbane fringe—rough, heathery, and often damp underfoot—offering a quieter alternative to the more popular Munros of the Crianlarich hills.

• •The name derives from the Gaelic Am Bacan, meaning 'the stake' or 'the hook', often used to describe a prominent ridge or a feature resembling a tethering post.
• •It is typically climbed from the north starting in Glen Dochart, often as part of a high-level traverse that includes the main summit of Am Bacan and the nearby Meall na h-Eaglaise.
• •The summit offers a sharp perspective on the massive south-eastern flanks of Ben More and Stob Binnein, as well as views down the length of Loch Doine towards the Braes of Balquhidder.
• •Measuring exactly 605.8 metres, it sits in that frustrating category of hills that are almost, but not quite, 2,000 feet high—a fact that keeps the crowds away and the grass long.
