- •Local folklore attributes the name to a 7th-century battle between the armies of Northumbria and Wessex. According to legend, King Edwin’s forces occupied this summit, while King Cuichelm’s men held the opposite ridge—now Lose Hill—with the victors naming the hills after the outcome.
