About Ben Inverveigh

Situated directly above the Bridge of Orchy, this steep-sided Tump provides an immediate, honest climb with views that punch well above its modest height. It serves as a magnificent grandstand for the Black Mount range and the vast expanse of Rannoch Moor, offering a perfect short alternative to the neighbouring Munros.

Did You Know?

  • The name is a corruption of the Gaelic Beinn Inbhir Bheathaich, which translates as the 'mountain of the confluence of the beast'. The 'Inbhir' refers to the meeting of the waters in the glen below.
  • The summit offers a unique perspective of the West Highland Line as it performs a massive horseshoe curve around the neighbouring glens, a sight often sought out by railway photographers as much as hillwalkers.
  • It is frequently climbed as a pair with its eastern neighbour, Meall Tairbh, forming a logical circular route that begins and ends at the Bridge of Orchy railway station.
  • From the summit cairn, the view west provides an exceptional look into the deep, dramatic corries of Stob Ghabhar and Stob a’ Choire Odhair, offering a sense of scale for the Black Mount that is often lost when standing on the Munros themselves.
  • Despite thousands of West Highland Way walkers passing its southern slopes every year, the hill remains remarkably quiet, as most are too focused on the long trek to Kingshouse to consider an extra 600 metres of vertical effort.
