About Tyddynbriddell Hill

Rising modestly above the Dysynni Valley near Tywyn, Tyddynbriddell Hill is a 280-meter hump that prioritizes coastal views over vertical drama. It’s the sort of hill that doesn’t demand a base camp, just a sturdy pair of boots and a healthy tolerance for inquisitive livestock.

Did You Know?

  • The hill overlooks the picturesque Cwm Maethlon, also known as the Happy Valley. This tranquil corridor was historically a vital route for travelers moving between Machynlleth and the coast.
  • Nearby sits Llyn Barfog, or the Bearded Lake, which is legendary for being the home of the Afanc, a mythical water monster. King Arthur supposedly used golden chains to drag the beast from these waters.
  • Geologically, the area forms the southern fringe of the Snowdonia National Park. While it lacks the jagged volcanic crags of the north, its rolling green slopes offer a much gentler day out for the knees.
  • The summit cairn is less of a grand monument and more of a polite suggestion of a peak. On a clear day, however, you can see right across Cardigan Bay without needing a Sherpa or an oxygen tank.
  • The lower slopes are often defended by a dense battalion of gorse and bracken that seems personally offended by your arrival. Expect to return to your car looking like you’ve survived a minor skirmish with a very angry hedge.
