About Sgurr a' Bhuic

A modest Corbett-height summit rising above Loch Linnhe's eastern shore in the Morvern peninsula. The grassy and rocky slopes offer an uncomplicated ascent, with the reward being sweeping views across the loch to the hills of Ardgour and Mull. Its remote position makes it a quiet objective in a seldom-visited corner of the western Highlands.

Did You Know?

  • The name derives from Scottish Gaelic 'Sgùrr a' Bhùic', meaning 'peak of the roe deer', suggesting this was historically good ground for spotting these woodland animals.
  • Despite falling just short of Corbett height by 25 metres, the hill is classified as a Dodd and Tump, reflecting its sufficient prominence and topographic interest in an area of relatively modest hills.
  • The summit offers particularly fine views westward across Loch Linnhe to the distinctive profile of Garbh Bheinn in Ardgour, one of the finest rock peaks in the Western Highlands.
  • Morvern's relative inaccessibility and sparse population means Sgurr a' Bhuic sees far fewer ascents than hills of comparable height in more frequented areas, despite its straightforward nature.
