About Beinn Bheag

Tucked away behind the popular Arrochar Munros, this modest Graham offers a quieter perspective on the surrounding giants. Rising above the eastern shore of Loch Sloy, its grassy slopes and occasional rocky outcrops lead to a summit with impressive views across the glen to Ben Vorlich and south towards the northern reaches of Loch Lomond.

Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic for 'Little Hill'. In the context of the Arrochar Alps, where it is surrounded by peaks significantly higher than itself, the name is a literal description of its stature relative to its neighbours.
  • The hill is most frequently climbed from the Loch Sloy dam road starting at Inveruglas. This approach provides an up-close look at the Loch Sloy Hydroelectric Scheme, which was the first major project of its kind in Scotland following the Second World War.
  • From the summit, walkers have a front-row seat to the massive east face of Ben Vorlich and the rugged ridge of A' Chrois, offering a sense of scale for the Arrochar peaks that is often missed when standing on the peaks themselves.
  • As a Graham, it belongs to the classification of Scottish hills between 2,000 and 2,500 feet with at least 150 metres of prominence, making it a frequent target for those looking to avoid the crowds on the nearby Munros.
  • Despite being named 'Little Hill', the initial ascent from the Loch Sloy track through pathless, often damp terrain quickly reminds walkers that 'little' in the Highlands is a very relative term.
