The Synges are a list of 670 summits and tops in the Lake District created by Tim Synge. They include all 214 Wainwrights and almost all the Lake District Tumps, as well as many quieter and less obvious tops.

How does a hill qualify to be on the Synge list?

The list is subjective. It identifies summits with at least 30 metres of prominence separately, but it is not limited to them. All entries are at least 300 metres high except Castle Crag, included because it is a Wainwright.

Is walking the Synges harder than the Wainwrights?

It is usually more demanding. All 214 Wainwrights are included, but they make up only about a third of the 670. Many of the remaining tops involve rough or pathless terrain and careful navigation.
