How do I get to Camasunary Bothy?

The usual short approach starts at the Am Mam track parking area at Kilmarie and is roughly 5 km each way over a rough stony track, with a boggy final path. The coastal route from Elgol is much longer and includes exposed, slippery sections where fatalities have occurred.

The current insulated building has a sleeping platform, a composting toilet and space for around 15 people. It has no fire or stove, no booking system and no guaranteed space, so bring a camping stove and fallback shelter.

The Bad Step is an exposed sloping rock slab on the onward route towards Loch Coruisk. It requires scrambling and can be dangerous when wet; high water can also make the river crossing impassable, so turn back if conditions are unsafe.
