What's the difference between Scafell and Scafell Pike?

Scafell Pike is England's highest mountain at 978 metres, while Scafell is a separate peak 14 metres lower at 964 metres, sitting immediately to the south. They're separated by a narrow col called Mickledore, and despite being neighbours, you can't simply walk between them—there's a near-vertical cliff wall in the way.

Is Lord's Rake safe to climb?

No, it's no longer considered a safe walking route. A major rockfall in 2016 left the route unstable, and there have been multiple incidents since then including walkers hit by falling rocks. If you do attempt it, wear a helmet, go early morning to avoid rockfall from other climbers, and be ready to turn back.

What's the safe route between Scafell Pike and Scafell?

The safe walking route goes via Foxes Tarn, which involves descending to around 740 metres before climbing back up—about 180 metres of height loss. It's frustrating, but it keeps you off dangerous scrambling terrain that requires ropes and technical skills.
