Is Crib Goch suitable for beginners?

No. Despite being graded as a Grade 1 scramble, Crib Goch should only be attempted by experienced mountain walkers who've done other scrambles before. The extreme exposure, commitment, and lack of escape routes make it a poor choice for first-time scramblers, even if the technical moves themselves aren't particularly difficult.

Can you turn back halfway across Crib Goch if you change your mind?

Not easily. Once you're on the ridge, there's no safe way off until you reach Bwlch Coch at the far end—roughly 500 metres of committed scrambling. Attempts to descend early down the steep, loose ground on either side have led to serious accidents, so you need to be sure before you start.

What makes Crib Goch more dangerous than other Grade 1 scrambles?

The exposure is the main issue—the ridge narrows to a knife-edge with steep drops of hundreds of metres on both sides.
