About Tullich Hill

Rising steeply between Glen Douglas and Loch Long, this rugged Tump offers a strenuous, pathless climb through thick grass and bracken. Its summit provides a brilliant, earned perspective of the Arrochar Alps, with the jagged silhouettes of The Cobbler and Beinn Narnain standing out across the deep glacial trench of the glen.

Did You Know?

  • The name derives from the Gaelic 'Tulach', which translates as a green hill or knoll, accurately describing the uniform grassy slopes that define its character.
  • The summit offers a unique visual contrast, looking north toward the wild peaks of the Southern Highlands and south toward the naval infrastructure of the Gare Loch and Faslane.
  • Walkers often pair this hill with its neighbour, Beinn Bhreac; while the ascent of Tullich is notably steep and dry, the connecting ridge between the two is notoriously boggy even in fair weather.
  • Despite its modest height, the southern flank is so relentlessly steep that it serves as a local benchmark for fitness, proving that a hill doesn't need to be a Munro to provide a punishing workout.
