About Stuc Odhar South Top

Overlooking the Glen Finglas Reservoir, this 603m bump is the quieter, slightly shorter sibling of the main Stuc Odhar. It’s ideal for hikers who find the main summit just a bit too lofty and prefer their panoramic views served with a side of Trossachs bog.

Did You Know?

  • Situated within the historic Glen Finglas estate, the slopes below this top were once part of a vast royal hunting forest used by the Stuart kings.
  • At exactly 603 meters, it is classified as a Graham Top, sitting on the southern ridge of its slightly more distinguished 624-meter parent peak.
  • The surrounding landscape was a favorite of the Pre-Raphaelite artist John Everett Millais, though he generally preferred painting the rocks at lower, less windy altitudes.
  • The ascent provides an excellent bird's-eye view of the Glen Finglas Reservoir, an engineering feat completed in the 1960s to supply water to Glasgow.
  • Navigating the peat hags between the north and south tops requires a PhD in bog-trotting; if you reach the cairn with dry socks, you have likely mastered the art of levitation.
