About Stob a' Choire Mheadhoin

Often paired with its nearly identical twin, Stob Coire Easain, this high Munro dominates the skyline above Loch Treig. It offers a rugged, high-altitude ridge walk with substantial steep ground. The summit provides an exceptional vantage point looking west across the Lairig Leacach towards the Grey Corries and the Ben Nevis massif.

Did You Know?

  • The name is Gaelic for 'Peak of the Middle Corrie.' This refers to its position overlooking the central bowl of the three corries carved into the western side of the mountain ridge.
  • Known collectively with its neighbour as 'The Easains', these two Munros are remarkably similar in shape and stature—separated by only seven metres in height—forming a massive wall above the western shore of Loch Treig.
  • The ascent from Fersit involves crossing the northern end of the Lochaber hydroelectric scheme, where water is diverted through a massive tunnel system to power the aluminium smelter in Fort William.
  • The summit offers a particularly stark view of the Lairig Leacach, a historic pass used by cattle drovers, which separates this range from the quartzite-capped peaks of the Grey Corries.
  • The 200-metre drop and re-ascent between this peak and Stob Coire Easain is a notorious leg-stiffener, ensuring that anyone claiming to have 'bagged the pair' has truly earned their descent back to Fersit.
