About Mullach Clach a' Bhlair

Sitting on the western edge of the vast Moine Mhòr plateau, this Munro is defined by its massive scale rather than a sharp peak. A high-level Land Rover track allows an efficient ascent from Glen Feshie, leading to a sprawling summit with views across the Great Moss toward the high peaks of Braeriach.

Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Gaelic Mullach Clach a' Bhlair, which translates as 'the summit of the stone of the plain'. This refers to its position on the edge of the Moine Mhòr (the Great Moss), a massive high-altitude plateau.
  • The hill is home to one of the highest Land Rover tracks in the UK. Originally built for estate management, the track zig-zags up from Glen Feshie to within a few hundred metres of the summit cairn at over 1,000m.
  • While the summit area is a broad, stony dome, a short walk to the western edge of the plateau offers a spectacular perspective straight down into the deep, forested trench of Glen Feshie.
  • It is frequently bagged alongside its neighbour, Sgòr Gaoith. However, the terrain between the two is notoriously boggy and featureless, requiring careful navigation if the cloud drops over the Moine Mhòr.
  • The summit cairn is notoriously modest for a Munro; in a thick Cairngorm mist, it is entirely possible to walk right past the highest point without noticing you have arrived.
