About Little Yarlside
Tucked away in the quiet Shap Fells, this grassy dome forms part of the 'Wasdale Horseshoe'. It offers a lonely, untracked alternative to the busier central Lake District. The summit provides a clear perspective across the A6 to the high Eastern Fells and down into the secluded valley of Wasdale Beck.

Did You Know?
- •The name derives from the Old Norse 'jarl', meaning an earl or nobleman, and 'side', referring to the fell's slope or hill-flank.
- •Alfred Wainwright featured this summit in his 'Outlying Fells of Lakeland', recommending it as part of a circular walk that explores the 'wild and lonely' country west of the A6.
- •The hill overlooks the valley of Wasdale Beck; hikers should note this is the 'other' Wasdale, located on the eastern fringe of the National Park rather than the famous valley containing Wast Water.
- •From the summit, the view west provides a distinct perspective of the Far Eastern Fells, with the distinctive profiles of Harter Fell and the High Street ridge clearly visible across the deep trench of the M6.
- •The ground between here and neighbouring Great Yarlside is notoriously saturated; it is the kind of terrain where your boots may decide to stay behind even if your feet have moved on.
