- •Be careful when planning a route here, as there is a much more famous and significantly higher fell also named High Crag located in the Western Fells. Our Central Fells version is a much more achievable 451.4m (1481ft) compared to its 744m counterpart near Buttermere.
- •Being located near Rosthwaite places this fell right in the heart of Borrowdale, a valley famous for its stunning rugged scenery and as a popular gateway to many of the Lake District's most beloved walks. It’s a great spot to gain a little elevation quickly before heading towards the more intimidating peaks.
- •This fell is sometimes overshadowed by its neighbours, but standing at 1481 feet, it still offers a distinct summit experience. Sometimes the best views and most peaceful moments are gained from these lower, less-trafficked hills rather than the notorious giants.
- •When looking down into the surrounding valleys from High Crag, remember the specific naming conventions for water bodies are strictly adhered to around here. If you spot a small body of water nestled below, it's a 'tarn,' as only Bassenthwaite is traditionally considered a 'lake' in the entire district.
- •This part of the Central Fells, while generally popular, allows for routes that feel a bit more secluded than those starting straight from major hubs like Keswick. It’s an ideal spot if you're looking for a quick, rewarding walk without having to battle the masses on the mega-fells.
