About Garn Gron

Rising above the rolling moorland of the Preseli Hills, this rounded Pembrokeshire summit offers a quieter alternative to its busier neighbours. The terrain is typical of the range—largely heather and grass—leading to a broad top where the sense of space and the bracing sea air are the primary rewards.

Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Welsh 'carn' (cairn) and 'cron' (round), describing the character of the summit or a prehistoric burial mound located there.
  • It is frequently bagged as part of a linear traverse of the Preseli ridge, situated just to the east of the range’s highest point, Foel Cwmcerwyn.
  • On a clear day, the summit offers a sprawling view south across the Pembrokeshire landscape to the Bristol Channel, where the distant hills of North Devon can sometimes be spotted on the horizon.
  • The surrounding moorland is part of the Preseli range's 'bluestone' country, the same geological area that provided the smaller standing stones for Stonehenge.
