About Faulds Brow
Situated just northwest of Caldbeck, this modest heather-clad rise offers a gentle introduction to the Northern Fells. While the summit is only slightly elevated above the surrounding moorland, it provides a superb vantage point across the Solway Firth to the Scottish hills and south toward the grassy bulk of High Pike.

Did You Know?
- •The name likely derives from the Old English 'fald', meaning a pen or enclosure for livestock, suggesting this gentle slope has long been used for gathering sheep from the surrounding common land.
- •In The Outlying Fells of Lakeland, Alfred Wainwright conceded the summit is easily reached in minutes from the road, but he recommended a five-mile circuit from Caldbeck to ensure walkers enjoyed a 'worthwhile' outing.
- •While the summit lies within the National Park, it sits right on the boundary; the two prominent Sandale broadcasting antennas located just to the north serve as a stark, modern landmark against the traditional fell landscape.
- •Despite its modest 344-metre height, the brow serves as a grandstand for the Solway Firth and the distant summit of Criffel in Scotland, while the massive northern shoulder of High Pike dominates the immediate southern view.
- •At just a few minutes’ stroll from the roadside, the ascent is so brief that your tea may still be scalding hot in the flask by the time you reach the summit.
