Did You Know?
- •The name Cnicht derives from the Middle English word for 'knight', so called because the mountain's profile resembles a 14th-century knight’s helmet when viewed from the sea near Porthmadog.
- •This summit sits roughly 500 metres north-east of the main peak, forming part of a narrow, glaciated ridge that separates the valleys of Cwm Croesor and Cwm Nantmor.
- •The ground between the main summit and this north top can be notoriously boggy, even in summer, requiring a careful line through the hummocks of Molinia grass and hidden pools.
- •It is the perfect place to stand if you want to see the 'Matterhorn of Wales' without actually having to look at the crowds currently standing on it.
