About Carn Chois

Sitting high above St. Fillans and the southern shores of Loch Earn, this rounded, heathery summit offers a quieter alternative to its more famous neighbour, Ben Chonzie. The terrain is often damp underfoot, but the reward is a grand view across Glen Lednock toward the high peaks of the Lawers range.

Did You Know?

  • The name is derived from the Gaelic Càrn Chois, meaning 'Cairn of the Hollow' or 'Cairn of the Foot', a description likely referring to its position at the base of the higher Ben Chonzie plateau.
  • Walkers often approach from the reservoir at Loch Turret or via Invergeldie in Glen Lednock, using the hill as a scenic stepping stone to reach the neighbouring Munro.
  • The summit provides an excellent vantage point for looking down the length of Loch Earn, with the distinctive twin peaks of Ben Vorlich and Stùc a' Chroin dominating the skyline to the southwest.
  • Despite its height and grand vistas, the hill is frequently overlooked by baggers; you are often more likely to encounter mountain hares in the heather than other people at the summit cairn.
